I have a 20 gallon aquarium with Cories, Guppies, and a featherfin?, a blue gourami, a rosy barb, ram cichlid, some neon tetras and possibly a kribensis. What are some good catfish that will not outgrow my aquarium or eat any of my fish? Once my guppies grow a bit bigger would a pictus catfish be suitbale? Please exclude plecos and cories because i have seen alot of them and they are either out of my price range or i already have them thanks!

  1. Be careful with the catfish, don't get an albino. I would suggest a protein scraper if you want a fish to clean the tank, but if you want a catfish just for the sake of it (which is cool, I like em too) just don't get an albino, those are aggressive and will eat your fish, no matter how big they are.

  2. oto cats... get three. they only get one inch long, like to be in groups, and help keep the tank clean. they may need occasional vegies

  3. Pictus catfish will eat anything that fits in its mouth. and by anything, I mean anything smaller than 5 to 8 inches long since they grow to over 12 inches and have a huge mouth.

The featherfin has to go! Get a bigger aquarium and separate her from the guppies and tetras. they are very territorial once fully grown to over 8 inches and will attack your other fishes.

Your tanks is way overcrowded if you are to add anymore fishes. Get a bigger tank.

If you still insist on buying catfishes, then I suggest getting a ghost Banjo catfish. they ae peaceful, bottom dwelling catfishes that grow 3.2 inches in length (SL). they are also timid fishes that will only eat fry and only then if one passes close enough without any effort being expended.

Many species of Eresthistidae, (e.g. Hara Hara). are available to many aquarists. their biggest specie grows to only 3 to 4 inches (SL). The common ones grow to only 1.2 to 2 inches in length (SL)

The south American Bumblebee catfish is also a good addition. however, they are rarely seen as they often hide.

Hate plecos but hate algea as well? Try the dwarf red twig catfish that belong to the same family (Locariidae). They grow to about 3.4 inches(SL)

  4. A featherfin can grow up to be 8 inches long and aggressive towards other catfish.

A picture will grow up to 12 inches long, and will eat other fish.

I suggest getting another tank, OR stop buying more fish. More fish causes more problems, buying the wrong fish give you a empty tank.
