  1. Southport is a tasteful Victorian resort which has a lot to offer if you have never been.  The sea is very strange because it is usually a long way out leaving a huge stretch of sand but the frontage is full of nice features , lakes , walks, boats etc.  The town is full of shops of every type and there is a nice atmosphere ----no kiss-me-quick stuff.

The Botanic Gardens is well worth a visit and so is the Flower Show.

Southport is a good base and Liverpool is half an hour by car or the frequent trains.  Blackpool is the same also the Lake District.  If you like tours then there are plenty of excursions.

Ainsdale nearby is good for walking in sand dunes.

What more can i say ?
