1. A deist believes in an absent, non-personal god.

Basically, god created the universe, and then ****** off for a really long coffee break.

  2. Yes. It's pronounced Dee ist.

It's the belief there is a god, visible through the rules of the universe. That's about it.

No personal savior, just a creator, and no revealed word of god. Here, have this site, have fun.

  3. I believe the consciousness of the entire universe is God. I do believe God created the universe. He/She/It/Them did have the first thought of " I think, therefore I am." [Descartes] then God said what the first answerer said " Oh F*** it". But if God were anything God would be a Mathematician, Physicist and Anthropologist. my God has no name or face.

Deist with a B.A. Degree in Anthropology (Archaeology)

Evolution is a scientific theory and a fact. Science always comes first and I don't resort to the "God did it" BS.

I come to the aid of Atheist who are under attack here in R&S all the time. I have nothing against Atheist asking for proof. I know I can't prove my God exist.

  4. Deism is a belief that there is infact a creator, that created the Earth and the universe, but pretty much left it and didn't interfere.

They don't believe in 'miracles' or Jesus Christ, because once again they don't believe God interferes. Which makes alot of sense to me. xD

  5. pronounced-

    D-is-em

  6. Deists believe that someone or something created the universe and set it in motion according to a set of natural laws, but then left and has done nothing since.

Most of the founding fathers of America were deists.

  7. You consider yourself to be a deist, but you don't know what a deist is? That is, to say the least, very peculiar.

  8. The word "Deism" is derived from the Latin word for God: "Deus." Deism involves the belief in the existence of God, on purely rational grounds, without any reliance on revealed religion or religious authority.

    Deists:

Do not accept the belief of most religions that God revealed himself to humanity through the writings of the Bible, the Qur'an or other religious texts.

Disagree with strong Atheists who assert that there is no evidence of the existence of God.

They regard their faith as a natural religion, as contrasted with one that is revealed by a God or which is artificially created by humans. They reason that since everything that exists has had a creator, then the universe itself must have been created by God. Thomas Paine concluded a speech shortly after the French Revolution with: "God is the power of first cause, nature is the law, and matter is the subject acted upon."
