They are not "machine guns", they are not "assualt weapons" the m16 is a rifle, the m4 is a carbine. That's it. The m16 and m4 both shoot the same NATO cartages, so performance is similar, but since the m16 has a longer barrel, the velocity is going to be higher, so I guess the 16 will have more kinetic energy transfered to the target. That does not make the 16 better though. The m4 is much more small and maneuverable, so it is much more effective in cqb.

No, they aren't machine guns. They are assault weapons, with the M16 being considered a rifle, while the M4 is a carbine. Which is "stronger" depends on what you are looking for. Since the M16 has a longer barrel, it has  greater muzzle velocity and effective range than its smaller counterpart. The M4's compact size and lighter weight makes it better suited for operations in tight quarters and situations where longer effective range isn't a consideration.

they are the same. they both fire a 5.56 round at the same velocity. the only difference is that an m16 is more accurate because of its longer barrel.
