  1. Not that much!

At least archaeologists get their hands dirty sometimes...

  2. Well, there is not a world of difference between the two disciplines. The theories and methods are nearly interchangeable. Sociology studies societal patterning and stratification, inequality, norms and rules and view culture as an element of a society, where as anthropology is more centered on culture as a whole, holism and comparisons between cultures.  More time is spent in sociology on present, here and now than anthropology in which one whole subdiscipline (archaeology) is solely devoted to the interpretation of the past.  Other than that there are really no major difference between the sciences. Anthropologists and Sociologists will cite each others work and fluidly use each others research and methods.  It is a matter of perspective between the two.
