    What ARE the PARTS in a car that allow water to pass thro when the engine heats up.

    The engine block.

    The coolant flow control valves.

    The water pump.

    The transmission coolant system.

    The radiator/heat exchanger.

    The turbocharger interface.

    Are you asking this question because you have a temperature/leakage problem and your mechanic gave you a ridiculously sounding number like $2000 to repair your car?

    Deterioration of gasket joining the top and bottom hemisphere of the engine block could also contribute to the temperate/leakage problem.
