  1. It's in imitation of the flag emblems on aircraft and vehicles; they're often printed 'backwards' on the right side to depict a flag blowing back in the breeze.  Frankly, I think it looks stupid; but what do I know?

  2. does it matter

  3. Gee thanks for pointing that out, I guess we all missed it.  I agree it looks goofy, but that's the Army for you.  However it is correct because the star field is forward.

  4. Why is the Flag patch "backwards" on Military uniforms?

Following is a quote from the Department of Defense website...

"Thank you for your inquiry about the proper placement of the American flag on the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Army Regulation 670-1, “Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia,” updated most recently September 5, 2003, addresses explicitly the proper and lawful placement of the U.S. flag patch on the Army uniform.

The regulation states that when authorized for application to the proper uniform the American flag patch is to be worn, right or left shoulder, so that “the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward. The appropriate replica for the right shoulder sleeve is identified as the ‘reverse side flag’.”

We appreciate and share your concern for the respectful display of our American flag on the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces."

  5. I thought we had covered this.  It's not backwards.  Put a flag on a pole, now walk around to the other side of the pole.  Is the flag backwards now?

  6. Congratulations you are the 1 milllionth r****d to ask this same question.  The flag is not backwards it is moving forward not retreating.  Does anyone bother to look something up on their own or do you just go through life using YA as a crutch for being in the dark on everything.  This is not a recent thing either.  Thanks for keeping up with the class junior!

  7. How could you think its stupid? It show that US soldiers are always moving forward and will never back down.

  8. The flag is always displayed star-field forward, as we are advancing and not retreating.

  9. think of a soldier holding the flag while running into battle
