Whats the Difference between High Deff. 1080p and 1080i?

What is different? I know 1080p is better for some reason. Some somone link a video camera to me that has 1080p.

  1. 1080p has the full 1080 lines of resolution at all times when watching the screen.  More lines of resolution mean a clearer and sharper picture.

    1080i means that there are only 540 lines of resolution at any given time on the screen because the lines are interlaced (thats what the "i" stands for:  "p" is progressive).  When interlaced, the lines switch between each other very quickly.
