  1. 4 low is no different as 4x4, but "low" is means the gears are set for higher torque which is use when climbing, driving through soft sand, or going down steep hills. basicially off-road use. by the way, there should be 3 different setting. 2Hi (normal daily driving), 4Hi (driving on slippery roads such as snow, rain, etc..for max. control/traction), and 4Lo.

  2. 4 low is for very bad ground. It could be steep, muddy or rocky but 4 low is very slow and much more powerful. When in 4 low, you will probably not get above 5 MPH.

  3. A 4x4 means your vehicle can be switched from 2 wheel drive (when only 2 wheels power the vehicle) to 4 wheel drive, (when all 4 wheels are engaged) when in 4 wheel drive you can put the vehicle in 4 low for craggy steep terrain or 4 high for ordinary roads...like with a automatic, there is drive, 2nd and low.
