Whats the E symbol on the pantech duo phone mean?

I just got a pantech duo and on the phone i get a little icon with that letter E and sometimes it says 3G. Whats that E mean?

the letter E means "edge" thats one of many services that your carrier has..if it says G than it means "grsps" which is anohter service...and 3g means third generation which is the best service for your carrier thats good for internet and just for data...is the carrier at&t??

MORE DETAILS: honestly, i dont think the E icon is making your phone do that...it could be the phone its self, because its only the service at&t is picking up...not sure about that..

the E means that your phone is picking up the edge network which is used for data but is kinda slow when accessing  the internet and sending pictures. the 3G icon means that ur phone picked up the 3g network signal which is the best at&t could offer and it allows faster data which is 3 times faster than edge. and if u cannot use the camera when its running on edge that has nothing to do with the network is  on. its a problem with the phone contact at&t about that...
