Whats the European Union and how is it similar to the US?

  1. Well, it's a Union of European countries.  Each has its own national identity, but they use the same money, and travel between the countries is now much freer than it used to be, so, if you want to make a comparison to the US, well, originally, it was supposed to be a bunch of independant nations (states) under one all-encompassing Federal government, which makes laws that the states cannot override.  The EU makes some laws that the individual countries cannot override (although the EU is much less powerful than the US gvt).  And the fact that one can travel freely over international borders, like we travel over state borders.  And they all use the same money, now, like the US states use the same money.

    Still, Europe is a bunch of independent NATIONS, and it's Europe!  The US is a bunch of semi-autonomous STATES, and it's, well, the United States.

    Similar. but different.
