Whats the Key for a good chrome work?

so im planning to chrome the pipes of my biek, a big cruiser..

Ive herad a lots of stories about chroming, some works last many years some works dont last even 10 minutes! (because of the heat)..whats the Key part of it? 10points pals.

(a -1 for the one who says "ask your mechanic" or stupid things like that")
