Whats the actual spelling of the wood that you say like geleton?

Its a soft to touch wood that is used alot by model makers as its really easy to work with. Hardly any grain but there is slightly, fairly pale, do you know it? How do you actually say spell it! lol

  1. sounds to me like balsa wood. Its light and used primarily for model planes due to its lightness.


  2. I think you are speaking of Jelutong wood, It similar to balsa wood. Its actually considered a hardwood..

  3. Jelutong (Dyera costulata)

        A soft wood much like butternut that has a silvery gray sheen when finished.

    Fine textured and straight grained.  Jelutong often contains sap channels

    throughout the the wood, yet these can add to the mystic of the carving.

    Used in carving and pattern making.
