Whats the advantages of mass media?

Freedom of Speech:

everyone (in medium to upper class society) gets to voice their opinion (in theory)

However with the corporatisation of mass media often we only here the opinions of the upper class.

But now with the internet most people can voice their opinion on anything and if many people agree can more easily cause governments to change policy (democracy may still stand a chance).

For a good example of the advantages of mass media consider how easily activists can gain attention today compared to in the 1970s. (although now people tend to ignore them)
