Whats the average age to stop bedwetting?

My daughter just turned six and is going into the first grade. She often wets her bed. Last night she slept with me and by husband and in the morning we were all wet. She refuses to wear diapers and stuff because she said she can't sleep.

What do you think is the average age to stop bedwetting?

When did you stop?

  1. It all really depends. I would say around 5 or 6 is the "average" age to stop.

I never really wet the bed, ever. I wet the bed once when I was 4 years old because I had a dream I was actually going to the bathroom.

My twin brother, however, had to wear pull-ups (we called the "special underwear") until he was 8 because he wet the bed nearly every night.

Also, my cousin didn't stop until he was 9 years old. His parents finally hooked him up to an alarm system that would sound if it got wet. My cousin stopped after a few weeks of the torture of waking up in the middle of the night.

She will stop, don't worry about it! For now, just use plastic covers over the mattresses for an easy wipe-down. If she refuses to wear the diapers, then have her sleep without sheets because that must be such a pain to wash everyday!

  2. make her go b4 she gets in to bed, don't let her drink anything an hour b4 bed time. you have to let her know it is not good. try waking her up and making her go to the bathroom, that may help. Then she'll learn to wake herself up

  3. Oh my! Don't listen to the first comment.  Some children do not get the sensation while they are sleeping.  It is much more common then you think.  I have seen children as old as 12 still being consistent bed wetters.  It is not her fault for wetting the bed.  You could suggest wearing night time pull ups.  Tell her they are just bed time underwear.

  4. 5 OR 6 MAYBE 7

    BUT IT DEPENDS

  5. 6 is a good age to stop!!

  6. My little brother is 10. He used to have a big problem with bedwetting. My mom solved it by making sure he goes to the bathroom every night before bed.

I hope I helped. If I have please contact me.

    Best of Luck!

  7. There isn't really an average age, but i stopped when i was 7 1/2 but every once in a while i would still wet the bed. Have her use the restroom before bed it helped me a lot.

  8. There is no average age, some kids never wet the bed others have a few accidents here an there an some continue to wet the bed well into their teens.. my best friend wet the bed until she was 12.   Poor thing, i wouldnt want to wear diapers either :(  do you have those plastic sheets?   You should take her to the doc just to make sure everything is alright and make sure her bladder is developing corectly and if there is anything you can do to help her stop.  This will deffinatly become a problem when she makes friends and wants to do sleep overs so hopefully you can come up with a sollution before hand, i can only immagine how a problem like this can effect her self esteem.  I know when my 5 year old has an accident he gets so embarrased and i have to remind him its ok and it happens.   GL to her.

  9. Well she is not to young to still do this.  It is totally normal.  Diapers are the easiest thing to do at night.  What you can do and it works is to put her to bed.  Then right before you go to bed go in and put a diaper on her while she is asleep or half asleep.  She will not fight you then.  I do this with my kid and he says nothing in the morning.  He just leaves the wet diaper on the floor.

  10. Don't pay attention to a couple of these answers. The medical community considers wetting the bed to be a normal condition in children up to age 7 y/o. For the most part, doctors will not even begin to treat bed wetting until after 7. It is very common for kids to wet their bed into the teen years and a few, 2 to 3 % (like me) will never stop. That being said, girls generally do not wet their bed for as long as boys. So, wait it out, protect her bed and do not punish her for this. Also, I wouldn't let her sleep in your bed unless she wears a diaper.

  11. The average age would be just a bit later than the average age for being potty trained - i.e. sometime between 2 and 4.

Six means your daughter has a problem. Lots of kids do - but take her to the doctor and get some help and advice.

  12. stop?

it shouldn't start in the first place.  6 is wayyyy too old to be bed wetting!

  13. some times kids dont stop bedwetting even in their preteens...(trust me one of my best firends was very embarrased about it but had to tell us when we spent the night one time)..............just have her go b4 she goes to bed and have a plastic sheet over the bed and under a normal sheet...she;ll stop eventually.....just dont make her think like somthing is wrong with her..cuase there isnt

  14. Well I am 57 years old and I still wet the bed so I think it is perfectly normal.
