The cheapest route is a cruise.  Price depends on where you are starting from, Argentina, South Africa or australia/new zealand, as well as the size of the ship, length of trip, etc. Several years back, I got a ticket in Argentina for $2,500 US, not including liquor on board and tips.  But that was a last minute ticket cause the boat was leaving in two hours. At that time, trips were average around $4,000-$6,000 for the short, no frills 10 day trip with shared accomodations on board  But now the dollar has weakened, and prices have probably risen..
