Whats the normal size of an arc welder electrode?

  1. For a small home welder, 3/32 or even 1/16". For most commercial work it is 1/8". The bigger the rod, the higher amperage the machine needs to be. Railroad cars use 1/4" rods. Many businesses are switching to MIG wire welders.


  2. There is no "normal" size.

    The size really depends on the type and thickness of metal, position and heat you`re using.

    If you`re wondering which size is most commonly used, I would have to guess 1/8th inch!!!
