  1. Stay inside and out of the way.  Stay away from windows.  Answer the door if police knock on it, or if someone knocks and you know who they are.  Do not open it if you don't know the person there.

  2. The 'beat couse' of action is to not worry about it. It takes time for investigators to go over the scene of a homicide. When the detectives are done, they'll open the street back up. Even if there was, let's say worse case scenario, an active shooter situation in your neighborhood, if the guy is still alive after three hours, he's barricaded somewhere. In any case, officers will give you instructions on where you can and can't go.

  3. Use the time to study spelling and grammar (or at least how to use spell check).

  4. 1. Move away from windows and outside walls. DON'T PEEK!

    2. Listen for any police in the area and do what they say without question (unless you want to be mistaken for a target and get shot).

    3. If this lasts long (30+ minutes) call the police and tell them who you are, where you are, and what is happening. Do what they say.

  5. Stay inside, lock the doors, and wait for the police bullhorn for further instructions.
