  1. No plants flower all year, try to make sure that you have some plants that are in flower in each month, with grasses and foliage plants and coloured stems of cornus for winter and there will always be something to look at.

  2. plastic plants flower all the time

  3. unless you live in the tropics or semi-tropics you are out of luck.  You might plant a mixture of warm and cold "loving" plants.  For example petunias bloom well in the winter in many climates (but not the frozen earth climates)

There are a huge number of plants so I would suggest you go to a garden site (like gateways to our gardens) and find out what zone you are in and ask someone who lives in the same zone what works best.

  4. Plants can't flower all year, they have to have a dormant season.  You can get great year-round color if you focus more on the foliage and consider the flowers to be a bonus.

To suggest anything for your garden, we need more info:  how will you water? What kind of sunlight will the plants be in? What is your climate zone?

One of the best investments any gardener can make is going to a book store a picking up a garden book that really focuses on your area (I like Sunsets books, but you might have some local celebrities that have published books with good info for your climate).  You only need one to start.

  5. I suggest that you keep returning to a local nursery or garden centre throughout the year and see what is flowering at the time. Ask the staff how long the plants will last - good luck and enjoy your new garden.

  6. Plants that are looked after by people who can spell

  7. Not unless you live in a temperate climate.  Pansy's are pretty hardy in cold weather places.  You can plant in early spring and they will flower through late fall.

  8. Nothing flowers all year round in the UK/Ireland but we have a few plants that flower twice - schizostylis and some hebes do this. Also many geraniums (and I don't mean pelargonioms which are also sometimes mistakenly called geraniums) will flower all summer - you just keep dead-heading them and they'll flower for months. And they'll spread. Why don't you visit a few gardens near you that are open to the public and see what sort of things you'd like to grow. If they'll grow there, then you shouldn't have any problem, and sometimes they have a nursery where you can cheaply buy the plants they grow.
