I just got a Linksys WRT54GL router and Im having trouble linking it to my two computers. The way I connected it, it involved one modem and TWO routers (my new and original one). So I dont see any point of having the Linksys one.

  1. just thats its wireless...

the downfall is that someone can use it and maybe hack your computer

  2. I'm an advocate of wireless technology because many new products coming out on the market can tap into it.  For instance, if you add a new computer in your home, it will most likely come with wireless capabilities (even with desktops).  You can also tie in video game systems, audio systems, as well as others.

It makes your set-up more mobile and have greater expandability.

  3. There is no other benefit, if you don't count the no-wires feature.

If you are fine with running Cat5 cable from one router out to two computers that don't move around the premises much, then a wired router is cheaper.  Also no wireless router can send data any faster than the wired router, and you have more security using a wired router.
