  1. VW TDI. A diesel should get you above 40 MPG an the Hwy.


  2. Civic or corolla.

  3. Honda Civic! They get about 35 mpg average, pretty good, and you can buy an 02/03 model for about $9000. You might actually be able to find an 06 or even an 07 (the new body style) for $15,000 :)
