  1. .17 HMR is a very accurate small game round and it isn't much different than a .22 Magnum.  There are also a lot of different types of ammunition for .17 HMR.

  2. Get a 410 shot gun. Far better gun for small game then a 22.

  3. 22 mag is too expensive to shoot, it is a very accurate round and very unstable.  I would go for the regular  10-22 Ruger,  there are so many after market parts for it.  You can spend your retirement fund for one single gun!

  4. 22 L. R. for all small game.* 22 Magnum is not the appropriate caliber for Kangaroo's.* Use a 222 or 22-250 for them.*

  5. If it were only small game the 22 long rifle would be optimum. You added in roos. The .22 WMR is probably a better choice.

Question: What is the average range that one shoots kangaroos?

Are they very spooky and will begin evasion at hundreds of meters or not too afraid and let you get within fifty or a hundred meters?

  6. The .22 Magnum is not inaccurate.  In fact modern rifles are as accurate as the shooter.  The .22 Mag. is a rimfire and rimfires aren't suitable for anything larger than say coyote (small prairie wolf about the size a medium sized dog).  I've never hunted kanagroo but I think you need to step up to a centerfire, probably something like a .243 Winchester.

  7. Get a good quility mag. and it should be ok.  I shot squirrels heads off with mine , way up high. Get a scope.
