I would like a SUPER clear image. But also I don't want to go broke either.

I have an Idea: Nikon D60

What is your opinion?

Much is appreciated!

  1. D60 is great.  D40 is just as good, for less $$.  For great quality photos, buy the less expensive camera and invest in better lenses.  That's get you a bigger jump in quality than a more expensive camera.

    Good luck, and have fun.

  2. Either a Nikon D60 or D40 would be great for a begining photographer on a budget.  The main advantage of the D60 is the higher resolution, better if you crop your photos.  Everything else is incidental.

The main advantage of the D40 is that it gives you an excellent DSLR, and save you enough money to start buying lenses.

You can get a D60 with an 18-55mm zoom lens.  OR you can get a D40 with an 18-55mm and a 55-200mm lens.  That's the beginings of a system there.

Here's a review and comparison of the D40 and the D60.

Both cameras are great tools for the creative photographer.  Just look at some of the photos posted here for the D40:

    And for the D60:

On both of the above links, choose subject in the "now showing" window, or type in subjects that interest you, using the "Search" window.

As for lenses, the 18-55mm both regular and VR is a great range to start with.  A 55-200mm VR will really extend your reach.  Frankly, the lenses you choose are tools, based on the images you want to capture.

There are lenses for low-light, action, wide angle scenics, and virtually any situation in the vast Nikon system.

    I hope this is helpful.

  3. While the D60 is a great camera, the D40 gives you more bang for the buck ... with the money you save, you can buy a second lens or more memory cards.

  4. WOULD YOU SHUT UP!

geez what a wuss who cares stop being imature.

    dam.

  5. what you really need is to set a price value and buy what you can afford.

the more you pay the better the camera

I have a d300 and its the best quality.

the Lens is also a big part of the quality, dont buy a crappy lens and expect something amazing.

usually with pro equipment you will pay more for the lens then for the camera.

the lens is up to you, make sure that it has a good aperture range, zoom may not be that important. I dont use it too much at all. it depends on what kind of photographs you take.

  6. I have the Nikon D60. Awesome camera. If you cant afford it buy the Nikon D40x. I didn't like the D40 so much, that's why I bought the D60 with some awesome features you dont get in the D40.
