It needs to have:

DV ability and a touch screen

More than just a USB connection

Decent Battery life

1 or 3 CMOS sensors, not CCD.

Thoughts? Can you link me to some good ones?

How does this one fare... http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/digital-camcorders/sony-hdr-hc9e/

  1. DV = miniDV tape.

    Touchscreen = Sony.

    MiniDV tape uses firewire/IEEE1394a/DV/i.Link (all the same thing. If the camcorder uses a memory card to store stills, USB will be used for that - but not transferring video from the miniDV tape - that is what Firewire is used for.

    No camcorder comes with a decent battery in the box. You need to get a high capacity rechargeable.

    You did not provide a budget... The Sony HDR-HC9 is good - it (along with the HC7, Canon HV20 and HV30) also has a 3.5mm stereo mic-in jack. All four have manual audio control. The Canons do not use a touch screen.
