Whats the best HDD Camcorder?

Looking for something with a large hard drive, easy to transfer video to pc and then dvd.... also looking for HD... Im using it for outdoors so I need a real nice one... which are the best? JVC Everio? Sony?

The BEST hard drive camcorder is a miiDV tape based camcorder that does DV and HDV and uses an external Firestore hard drive from Focus Enhancements.

Most internal hard drive based consumer camcorders use AVCHD compression. Your video editor needs to be able to handle that - and it needs to speify the camcorder and the AVCHD compression from that camcorder's manufacturer.

The exception is that JVC does not use AVCHD - but a JVC-specific MPEG-2 variant... so you need to take an extra conversion step.

But if you think copying files that need to be converted, then making an archive back up before you even start editing is easier than just clicking Import from miniDV tape (and 1080i HDV), then the internal hard drive camcorders that save to highly compressed AVCHD - and the flash memory camcorders that do the same thing - are pretty much all the same. Pick the one with the largest hard drive.

But my real recommendation is that you stay with miniDV tape.
