I'm 16 6'2" about 170lbs. I'm sorta familiar with bikes in general. I've been told that starting out on a 250 may be risky but I'm determined on it. My cousin has a KX 450 and that thing scares the h**l out of me, its wicked. I know I dont want a big 450 like that but I want to know WHAT IS THE BEST 250cc BIKE FOR ME???

  1. start with a CR250...there forgivable and the bike will fit you!

  2. The big 4 (5 including KTM) are so close it hardly matters. The 250F's run awesomely. Pick a color. My preference for MX is Yamaha but honestly it's just a brand thing. Get a Dirt Rider shootout issue and read up. Some are slightly better at some thnigs than others. It's up to you. Now, if you're buying an older 2 stroke 250 the KX's were always really solid and easy to get parts for. Everyone I know that had a CR250 totaly loved it too.

  3. If you are asking about what the best bike is for you, no one can tell you that.

Look at your stature now, you are 6'2" and weigh in at 170. ask yourself this, do plan on growing?

A 4 stroke 250cc machine will indeed pull you, but in time, you will outgrow the bike. You can buy a 250 4 stroke and ride it, until you outgrow it, then sell it to get a bigger bike.

Plus ask yourself this, what kind of riding will you be doing?

if you like motocross, get a mx bike, if you like desert get a trail bike....

a trail bike is like the WR line from yamaha, or the crf line fron honda.

I think you would do fine on a 450 4 stroke, remember that you dont have to pin it all the time, you can lag around on it and just have fun on it, plus it will be good for you to have a 450 of your own because you will learn how the bike reacts in all situations, and then if you need more power to get out of a situation, you will have it there. Plus the fact that you will probably grow a little more, and then you will not have to buy a new bike......

if you have made up your mind that a 450 four stroke is too much, and the 250 four stroke is too small, look into the 250 two stroke line.

Suzuki and Yamaha make excellent 250 2 stroke bikes.....

  4. WR250

2003 models are nice but the 2006's are wicked.

  5. I've been racing since I was 7 (I'm 15 now) and I have ridden both 250 four strokes and two strokes.  For a beginner, the four stroke would be the way to because it is easier to ride than the two stroke 250's. The bad thing about four stroke is their maintenance. If you know how to change the oil, check the valves and all the other four stroke stuff, the bikes are very reliable if you're just an average rider. Although two strokes can be a little intimidating to ride, the only thing (other than mixing gas) you need to do is change the oil regularly. If you don't know how to work on a 250 four stroke you might be able to have a shop do it for you but to me, it really isn't worth it. Considering the fact that no one really wants two strokes anymore (which is sad), they are becoming cheaper than the four strokes and are even more reliable. If you go the four stroke route, I think the Yamaha 250F would be the best choice because they have had the most time to work out the faults with the four strokes. If you get a 250 two stroke I would still go with the Yamaha because it's the only two stroke that has been getting constant upgrades to make it a better bike. It is also the easiest two stroke to ride because it is the most like a four stroke but without all the weight (did I meantion that four strokes are almost always heavier?).

  6. Don't get a Yamaha YZ.

    my brother has two.

the go way fast and are super loud!!!!!

i suggest a CRF Honda 250 for you.

they're fast but yet quiet. :)

  7. I would look at the GN125 Suzuki or the 250 Ninja. Also Pep Boys has some real nice Moto Cross bikes. They also offer sponsorship programs.

  8. i would go with a Yamaha. that was my first bike.  or go with a honda 250

  9. Go for the Honda CR250, its a great bike and I use to race motorcross with it!  The bike is not overpowering and maintenance is not really all that hard. When I did trials, my dad geared the bike down, which is easy to do to. Also parts are easy to find and just keep up the maintenance on the spark plug and your will be fine.

The other dirt bikes (Yamaha,Kawasaki,Suzuki, etc) are good bikes but not for a beginner. You want something you can control not it control you.

    Enjoy the ride.................

  10. i would say a kawasaki kx 100 it is big and dosent go as fast

  11. I think th best bike for you would be a yamaha yz250f.

    Its a great bike!

    i have one myself.

    Im 14, 5'8

    Its a great bike.

Yamaha was the first company to create the 5 valve cylinder, and they have had the most time to get all the bad things about it out.

honda and all the other brands havent got all the flaws out of their bikes.

So i would recommend a yamaha, cause they have had the longest to develop their bike.

  12. The Honda CR 250 is probably the most well rounded mx bike available today.

  13. id get a KX 250F. my bro is 18 6'6" and 190 lsb. hes been rideing for a couple years and the thing is perfect for him perfect power almost perfect hieght. just dont buy a 2004 model because the have overheating problems
