we just bought a 120cm LCD it is beautiful quality for movies and shows etc - and hd is awesome. although what you need to consider is what do you watch???? if you watch sports - it is recommended to get a plasma... because there is some pixelling with the LCD when the runners and swimmers go fast. its not significant but noticable.

Thats all relative to your budget, but for sure you would want to get an LCD screen or a Plasma.  Of course, it should be HD as many future/current television programs will be broadcasting them that way and it looks a lot better than standard definition.  I would go to your electronics store and look around for something that looks good to you and that you can afford.  I would go for a 720p or 1080p television.
