Whats the best and easiest way to learn about cars?

Like how to tell how good a car is and the engine and some basic parts.

I think "HowStuffWorks" is a great tool for beginners.  Here is a link to their site showing how an engine works.

I'm sure you can find out how a automatic or manual transmission works somewhere else on the site along with many other things.

There may be some videos on the subject somewhere in YouTube or Google Videos also made by the people at How Stuff Works.
