  1. Avid Media Composer or Avid Newscutter actually. They are the broadcast standards and responsible for 99% of what you see on TV. These two used to have to be part of the hardware package..came complete with the machinery. They've just released them in the last couple of years as software only.

    I hope that answers the question. However...for consumer or lower end professional work Avid may not be the best choice. It depends on a lot of things...hardware and cameras etc. It is a good policy to learn editing on Avid though..as everything else afterwards will seem easy..lol.

  2. The most expensive video post-production SOFTWARE I know of is Avid Xpress Pro. It should cost you around $2,000, but I have to say its pretty worth it. Very powerful encoding and inter-format editing.

    You could also go for Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro. They both are around $800. They're pretty much both the same. Except Premiere also comes with Encore DVD.

    And I do not mean to offend anyone, but please, listen and pay attention to the answer that seems most logical and comes from a person with at least some knowledge of filmmaking :)

  8. haha final cut!?! avid man, a full avid ds nitro suite costs something like two million, with a standard server. a higher server upgrade will costs more than double that at least. if you have two million, then go ahead, otherwise final cut pro for mac, sony vegas pro for pc is good, as well as adobe, and there anywhere between 500-10k for them. but avid is wicked.
