I wanna grow new trees from braided tropical hibiscus trees, and crape myrtle trees. I need to know where on the tree to make the cutting, and how much to cut. Also do i need root hormone, and just basically step by step how do i do this.

  1. With a Propagating device I guess.  If that won't work, then try a nice wine, moonlit dinner, a movie, her own Mercedes. etc.

  2. Hibiscus grows readily from cuttings, and is propagated commercially that way.  I've grown them by the hundreds.

Take the cutting from brown wood.  Cut the piece about 3 or 4 inches below a leaf node at a 45 degree angle.  Cut off the top just above the node.  Place the angled end 2 to 3 inches deep in light potting soil and keep warm and moist.  Hibiscus roots best around 85 to 95 degrees F.

It will begin to leaf in about ten days if conditions are good but don't pot it out until it has a good root mass.  The roots are very fragile at that point,  Handle the plant as little as possible.

Rooting compound won't hurt but Hibiscus really doesn't need that.  In our tests, we found that rooting powders have only a marginal benefit and, in fact, the gels actually seem to r****d rooting.

I've not rooted Crepe Myrtle but most woody trees will root the same way.

  3. Try Air Layering
