  1. If you like really dark beer, Rasputin Stout is a really tasty alternative to Guiness.  For something milder, Newcastle is a personal favorite.

  2. im pretty sure they dont put citric acid in any beer so any reputable beer should be fine!

  3. I'm fully willing to admit I could be wrong, but as an avid beer collector (200+ bottles being aged right now) and amateur brewer... I don't recall ever hearing of citric acid in beer... alpha acids form the hops... lactic acids in some milk/sweet stouts. There may be citric acids in some fruit beers like Summer Shandy or Orange Blossom or that gawd awful Bud Light Lime... but as a standard ingredient/compound found in beer this is a new one on me.

    EDIT:

On further consideration... there may be some citric acid from the certain hops in some beers. Or it may be used to balance acidity/pH in them like it is used in wines. Yeah, sound funny that you would use an acid to balance acidity or pH... but you do.

I'd try gruits for beers without citric acid... Like Heather.

    EDIT:

    "Hops won't contribute citric acid,but...

Food grade Citric acid is used in the production of some beer.We use citric in some beers and Phos in others(when needed) at Surly Brewing

pH adjustments(to lower the pH) are done with either food grade phosphoric or citric acid solutions.Acidulated malts and Lactic acid can be used also.Probably more options I'm neglecting too.Brewing "salts" are also used to buffer the pH up or down (CaCl,CaSO4,CaCO3,etc)"

So there you go... beer may contain it... But what beers do or do not is still up for questioning.

  4. Why on earth would there be citric acid in your beer? Any Premium beer should not have any additives. Beer should actually only be malted barley, hops, yeast, and water.
