I have epilepsy, and my husband & I don't have kids & really don't want kids, at least not right now. We think we may want kids in five years but we really want to plan it. Does anyone know of some good birth control that's safe for epileptics?

  1. I would suggest an IUD..It's pretty effective and as soon as you want kids-you can get it out and start trying almost immediately!!

  2. your best bet is probably the IUD. but remember that no form of birth control is 100% effective. Combining birth control methods will further reduce your chances of pregnancy. Talk to your GYN about what would be the best combination for you.

  3. you could ask your doctor about IUD's I don't know if they are safe for epileptics but you could look into it.

  4. How about the IUD?

  5. IUD (I had the copper IUD), I had one in since the birth of my son 2 years ago, it's the greatest because you don't have to worry about it for up to 10 years(or less of course) and it doesn't have anything to do with hormones so that won't mess with your body and your epilepsy

  6. abstinence

  7. You should try Mirena...it is a little plastic thing that is shaped like a "Y" and is placed inside of you by your doctor...you can do everything as you would usually do with this in...and it is good for five years.  I am pregnant right now and that is the one I plan to use after the baby is born.  The good thing about it is you dont have to remember to take a pill everyday or go for a shot every few months and if you decide that you want to try for a baby, you just go back to your doctor and have it removed...and that is it.  I am not sure how it will be effected by epilepsy...I am quite certain the condition wont be disruptive, but any medication you may be taking might...Good Luck

  8. implanon implant does 3 years at a time.. and is like 99.8% effective... there are cases of pregnancy but its about 2 in every 1000 women!
