Whats the best building society/bank passbook accounts and how easy are they to set up?

Local building societies/banks to me are:

Nationwide, Abbey, barclays, birmingham midshires

It must be a passbook account and is it possible to appy for these accounts online? thanks

It's not one of the banks/building societies you mentioned, but Lloyds TSB is easy to set up. I don't know about setting it up online, I've never done any banking online.
