There are lots of camcorders on the market around this price at the moment. The most popular camera of these seems to be the Sony SR-34, which has massively dropped in price recently and can now be purchased for as  little as £239.99.

Sony is a well respected brand when it comes to photography and camcorders and the SR-34 is a great camcorder. Its shock resistant, has a 30GB Hard drive and 40x optical zoom, so has everything you need. It has a large 2.7" LCD screen, and the hard drive will store up to 20 hours of footage.

You might want to read the other question "I bought a video camera two months ago and never use it" - the best camcorder is one that you use on a regular basis (not sit in a drawer).

I use two - fairly high spec JVC HD7 but this is outside your budget.

The other is a Sanyo - I find this a really nice little camcorder, comes with a docking station so uploading files is easy, charging the battery is simple, "Gun shape" is a bit unusual but makes using it easy, picture quality is superb (records in HD), still images are brilliant, uses SD cards so storage cost is low.

Many will criticise this style, I use it as a "disposable" option (hanging it off the sides of race cars, perching it on a bracket on the bonnet and generally risking destroying it ever time I use it - but its unbelievable.

Ease of use, ease of charging, ease of transferring plus small enough to fit into your pocket.

Certainly worth a look.
