Next summer im planning to go on a bit of a roadtrip to prague via the nurburgring in germany. If i was being sensible and mean id take something economical and dull, but that would be pointless.

Ive got about 3 grand to spend and am thinking of....a porsche 928, a W126 SEC mercedes or a E24 635....

anybody got any opinions?

  2. You can STILL go to the Ring and drive an Alfa Romeo 75 you hire there from the racing school.  The gearbox is on the back-axle, as it is on the Porsche 924/944 and 928, so the weight is carried 50:50.  The 2litre TwinSpark should be quicker than your 325 convertible.  Not sure about being a comfy cruiser, but the Alfa sure engages you, demands your attention.  Strip the interior and fit buckets and harnesses, and a cage when you can find one, or have one made.  Very little turns in as well as the 75, and the 3 litre V6 models are a little quicker than the 2 litre (which came with as much BHP per litre as the Lamborghini Countach of the day).  I am prepping my 75 for fast road adn track-days, and loving it!

  3. Get a BMW - Mercs don't handle & aren't that reliable, and a 928 for £3,000 will be a wreck.

    Be a devil & find a 750i with M-Tec suspension.

  4. all 3 of them for less than 3 grand doin all that mileage sounds like ur asking for trouble...i would take the old shape 325i bmw  fast and that engine is bullet proof.

spend the 3 grand on ur e30 325i they are gorgeous cars you can get some serious horse power out of it. if i was you i would not go in anything else.. my mate has a 928s its quite fast but not reliable.
