i'm thinking about buying a new used car: whats the cheapest car on parts, good on gas, 4 door, but a good type of car??

Pound for pound and dollar for dollar a certified used car is a great way to go. Right now GM has a number of 4 door cars that will get 30+ MPG and, certified, have a great warranty as well as some very good finance deals. I have sold most makes of cars from Honda-Toyota and Lexus as well as Chrysler and a few others. My wife's Buick with a 3.8 engine gets 30+ on the highway and way more comfortable than the 4 cyl. car we traded in. Gets better mileage too. While you are shopping check out a nice cert. used impala or G6/V6. Either or several other GM cars would fit your needs. Most consumer reports like them too.  Good luck and shop well.

It depend how much you want to spend.  Honda Accord/ Acura TL usually is my first choice, parts are very reasonable and easy to found.  e.g. 2000 - 2001 Acura TL, it around $8500.   Both mpg: city 25 hwy 35

Honda Civic, mpg: city 35 hwy 45

Good luck, always have a good honest mechanic to check it out before agree on the deal.

i would say a corrola if your not looking for anything special, but great gas millage, fairly reliable, holds its resale value well.. oveeall a good car for the value
