  1. I agree. White cloud mountain minnows are attractive little fish that are easy to keep in cold water. There are also some tetras called black skirt (or sometimes black widow) tetras that prefer cooler water, anywhere from 68-79 degrees, thus living comfortably in most people's room temperature.

I wouldn't reccomend goldfish for a beginner unless they were really interested in them or committed to their care since they require such large aquariums and frequent water changes due to their large waste production.

Edit: Who are the idiots giving me a thumbs down? You people are stupid, I'm saying the same thing as everyone else!

  2. Goldfish are hard fish to care for. Get a betta. All you need is a bowl of water, water conditioner, water, food, and a betta. Change the water once a week and feed him once a day. Easy easy easy

  3. White Clouds.

If you go the goldfish route, 1-2 goldfish per 20 gallons or more.

  4. For a beginner get him or her a goldfish there cheap and will be a good learning fish

  5. i would get those white cloud minnows. theyre easy to care for my friend use to have them they all died :(.

  6. FORGET Goldfish! They are filthy fish guaranteed to make a beginner's life miserable!

White Cloud Mountain Minnows, like you said, are good to start with. There are also Blue Paradisefish that are not too pretty but they are tough and are labyrinth fish so can take a gulp of air. If they can stand having just one kind of fish and they can catch them then baby Bluegills (as in tiny ones) are tough but would eat a normal fish.
