although i personally can't resist the western style"fast food " found all over sai gon,[ i will certainly try "pizza hat" when i go back "dan"] my favorite vietnamese restaurants are "quan tu my" [ 53 nguyen thi minh khai street] besides great food it has live professional and armature entertainment. "thanh nien" excellent food and semi private dinning areas/ nice for small dinner parties [ 11nguyen van chiem street/ behind diamond plaza]. and an interesting place where the waiters wear rollers scates and they also have an ENDLESS self serve buffet is "san van din ky" [ 50 le hong  gam street just south of the benh thanh market.]... "chuc an ngon" [ i wish you a good appetite]

Saigon has arguably the most diversity of food, both native and foreign, in Vietnam. That in mind, the best place to dine would depend on what you would want to eat.

For Chinese food, you have to go to Ben Xe/Cho Lon district, which is one of the largest Chinese communities outside of China.

For pizza, It's Pizza Hat in the foreigner/expat village in District 7. The lady that owns the place is a Viet Kieu (Vietnamese living abroad) who returned to Vietnam and duplicated a Pizza Hut in Saigon (with the exception of the "u" in hut).

For Kentucky Fried Chicken, well, go to KFC. There's several of them around the city including the top floor of the Diamond Plaza across from the cathedral.

For Vietnamese food, just about anywhere. If pho is what you're wanting to eat, go to Pho 2000, which is next to the Ben Thanh market. It is a gawdy tourist place famous for Bill Clinton eating there. If you're lucky, you can eat where Bill ate and go to the bathroom where Bill went.

For the best seafood, just about any place you go will have good seafood, because Saigon is a major seaport. My favorite place is a big restaurant near the foreigner village in District 7 on the corner of the street that heads into the city.

For the best sushi. There's a restaurant aroundthe corner from the Caravelle Hotel that is to die for. Ask anyone around there where it is, because it's pretty popular.

For the best cheeseburger, go to Tan Son Nut (???) airport, get on the next United Airlies flight for LAX, and find the closest In-N-Out or Tommy Burger. I have yet to find a decent cheeseburger in all of Vietnam let alone in Saigon.

I should know this. I am vietnamese and has visited this wonderful country 2 times. I have been too many dining places, but if u want to go eat. just walk around sit down in a chair and say "com tam". It is the best vietnamese food ever. Well, my favorite vietnamese food.
