Matt I would recommend Kaspersky Lab, it will not hog up all your system resources and is top rated.  Read all reviews before you buy.

Norton Internet security.  It will slow down an older system somewhat, but it definitely offers the most secure protection, and it runs well on machines with 1 gb of ram.

LOL to the contributor below me with the "super antivirus".  This is spyware, it deliberately gives back false reports so you think it is doing a better job than commercial anti-virus.

You would think it would be Norton, but almost any experienced hacker can get by Norton.  Go for Webroot Spy Sweeper.  It is great, and geek squad recommended.  The sweeps catch and remove spyware, which slows down your computer and internet drastically.  It also comes with the anti-virus edition.  I am sure they both come with a firewall.

It works wonder, whenever I am wandering off to random websites like searching jokes, or cheats for games, spy sweeper will check the website and if they can any harmful vibes from it, it will warn you and tell you that you shouldn't enter it.  Norton has never warned me about harmful websites...

I couldn't decide which is better, so I use both Norton and Spy Sweeper.  But I would choose Spy Sweeper if I were you.

you should do a google search for "super antivirus free edition" its the best i have found....i had mcaffee and wondered why my laptop was working so slow. then, i downloaded the super antivirus protection and it found some 185 viruses that mcaffee never caught. that's the thing with most anti spywares....they are usually set up to catch all the easy viruses, but the super antivirus is the best hands down.
