I have laryngitis & the doc says I have 2 just sit it out. He said theres nothing 2 treat it with coz its not viral, so no antibiotics. I've been using ibuprofen, I'm just wondering if there's not something else I could b doing. I'm trying not 2 use my voice at all but with a 6yr old in the home that's a little hard

  1. Here are some palliative measures that might help you:

    Avoid public speaking during recovery

Be aware that whispering puts greater strain on the vocal cords than normal speaking

Inhale steam from a bowl of hot water or from a warm shower

Drink warm, soothing liquids (but do not drink alcoholic beverages)

Try a cool-mist humidifier; avoid air conditioning

Use nonprescription pain relievers and throat lozenges to ease the discomfort

Avoid cigarettes until the symptoms have subsided

  2. I have found that hot water, lemon juice and honey helps, it just makes it feel better. You can also use tea but make sure it is hot.

  3. As you are doing, rest your voice, drink plenty of fluids, take analgesics (aspirin, paracetamol), try a menthol inhalation.

Throat pastilles don't reach the larynx, but are soothing, try not to cough, sucking a throat pastille might help.

Have fun with your 6 year old, write each other notes and pictures - at least that would make you sit down together.

    Make silence fun!
