  1. Buy a Hovabator. They don't cost $160 like one person said, more like $40.

  2. the ones you put chicken eggs in, but just get a light thats hotter.

  3. my friends mum used a air tight tub with wet cotton wool for humidity not sure about temp or light though

  4. I took this info from a site, If you want to make on yourself, take 2 clean clay bricks and place them in a 10 gallon tank or a styrofoam cooler. Fill the tank with enough water to cover a submersible aquarium heater place in the bottom. The temperature has to be 83°F (28°C) - 85°F (29°C). I would suggest a digital thermometer to determine the temperature. Place a plastic container on top of the 2 clay bricks (a food storage container). Put two inches of vermiculite into the plastic container. Then the eggs should be gently half-buried into the vermiculite (make sure not to turn or rotate the eggs). During incubation, keep the vermiculite moistened. Make sure not to wet the eggs. A cover should be place over the tank to keep in the air temperature. Make sure that the cover provides air circulation, if not the lack of oxygen will kill the eggs. Drill or poke a bunch of holes on the cover.

Watch the eggs for about 4 days. Make sure that the eggs do not shine from moisture condensation (means they are too wet). Check for any eggs that are: deflated, moldy, or oozing. If you find any like that discard them right away.

After 8-11 weeks of incubation, the eggs will hatch. Usually all the eggs will have within a 24-hour period. Do not try to help babies in hatching or you will probably kill them. Put hatchlings in a basic cage setup (individually if possible). Hatchlings usually do not eat 1-3 days after they hatch for they are still absorbing their yolks from the eggs. You will need plenty of small crickets to feed them once they start eating.

  5. the best and steadiest type of incubator for personal use is a hovabator.

it's basically a styrofoam box with heat wires in it.

you can MAKE an incubator just as easily with a styrofoam box though. and for cheap!! (a hovabator costs about 160$)

    get a styrofoam box.

-try a packaging store, who will seel you one for a few bucks

-a beer store, they sell styrofoam thermoses for a couple of bucks

-a grocery store, they often recieve product in them, (like seafood, or grapes) and have a bunch of them laying around that they will just give you

buy an electrical heating pad from the drug store. the kind that you plug in, and you throw it on your aching muscles. they usually cost about 20 bucks. the cheaper, the better! the expensive kinds have an automatic off switch after 2 hours, and that is NOT what you want.

buy a thermometer. you can buy one from the dollar store, that will work just fine, or you can go to radio shack or the grocery store and buy a digital probe thermometer. (the grocery store will sell probe bbq thermometers, a gardening center will have them, etc. just don't go to the petstore, since they will sell the same thing for a lot more money)

set everything up so that you reach the desired tempurature for whatever animal you happen to have and want to hatch. (the pad will come with a high medium and low button. if you want it hotter, boost the pad, if you want it colder, poke some holes)

let the thing sit for a day or so, just to make sure the tempuerature remains steady, then just toss your eggs inside!

it's a lot to read, but seriously, very simple. then, afterwards, you can reuse that electric pad by slapping a fishtank ontop of it, and using it as an undertank heater for your hatchlings!!

  6. Well the BEST incubator probably would cost you a grand. If you want a decent incubator, you can just by a hovabator incubator. They're pretty cheap and work fine or you can make your own. Really, as long as you can get fresh air to the eggs, keep them at a constant 80 to 85 and keep them moist, they'll be fine
