My family is thinking about adopting a small dog. We do not have much experience with dog and don't know which dog breed will sute us best, we are very laid back 2 of us go to school all day and two of us work out of house. We need a type of dog that listens and will still worm our harts. We have one older cat who is 17 years old but we are putting him to sleep. So, what do you think is the best dog for us?

  1. Go to dogbreedinfo.com and take the puppy quiz.  It asks all kinds of questions about your lifestyle, and will give you a list that you can work from.

  2. i would recommend a shihtzu (sp?). my mother has 2 and they are pretty much our family. they are smart quiet, and non aggressive.

  3. I have 2 rat terriers.  Mine are around 14 pounds each but rat terriers come smaller and larger than that.  They're trainable, love to be around people, lap dogs, and they can stay home for hours at a time.  My 2 are electric fence trained.  The only thing is, like with most small dogs is that they need there teeth brushed daily or minimum 3 times a week or you're in for an expensive teeth cleaning.  They have short hair so require very little grooming.  they're easy for children to walk on a leash.

  4. You should go to an animal shelter and spend some time with the dogs there.  One of them will warm your heart and be right for your family.

  5. You would probably want a mini. Pinchire, Italian Greyhound, French Bulldog, or Manchester Terrier

  6. What about a miniature poodle?  Poodle's are wonderful dogs and

non allergenic.  I have a Standard which are really great but you

said you wanted a small dog.  Poodles are unbelievably smart and

get along well with other animals.  Their coats are somewhat high

maintenance but that's their only drawback.

Good luck with you new dog,

    Karen

  7. I like staffordshire bull terriers. They are amazing family pets and love a cuddle. They love people attention and will enjoy a cuddle when your watching TV. I have always lived with dogs and got my first dog at 13 years old. She is a staffordshire bull terrier and trust me, they are an absolute amazing breed.

Good luck with getting a new dog. And also please try shelters. Whatever breed you do decide, im sure theres one waiting in the rescue for you.

  8. A pug may be just the thing for you and your family. They are calm dogs that like being with their people. They like human attention, are generally obedient, and are not too high energy. I have met many pugs in my neighborhood and in dog class and they are calm and sweet natured dogs who seem to really enjoy the company of people.

You would need to train him to not bother your cat but pugs do not really have a very strong prey drive (unlike many hunting dogs) so that should be very do-able.

  9. weenerdog!
