  1. Right now I'm in love with the Rokkaku, it's a 6 sided japanese fighter kite.  I just made one myself, and they fly beautifully.

I suppose the best type of kite will depend on what you want it to do.  Do you want to haul a ton of line laundry, do you want it to haul you along on a buggy, or do you like something that is quick and can dart around the sky...etc.

The large rokkaku, I built one that is 8' tall and about 6'8" wide, is very good at hauling line laundry.  It's rock solid in the sky and has quite a pull.

The Hatta, is a square diamond kite, good fighter.  It's usually small and can dart around rather quickly in the sky.

Then you have the Delta Conyne, it likes to hover right above you, also a very stable flier.  It can fly in the slightest breeze.

Then you have the Nasa Para Wing, a para foil kite that can pull you on a buggy.

I've bought kites from www.intothewind.com, nice people there.  There's another one with nice kites, http://www.gwtw-kites.com/

Nowadays though, I'm building my own kites, and I get my supplies from www.kitebuilder.com
