Whats the best part of Winnipeg to live in?

My family and I are in the process of moving to Winnipeg. We visited Winnipeg in October for a week and quite like the place: shopping, easy transportation and the people we met. We are hoping to buy our own place as soon as we get there, but are now quite worried about all these negative vibes we are getting about St James. This was a place we thought we would like to live because of its local amenities but we are not now sure. Can anyone advise??????
