It is not what brand you buy, but when you take the test. You can pregnancy test 7 days after a missed or short period or 19 days after the sexual encounter for the most accuracy, test first thing in the morning.

Dollar Tree has some of the best tests on the market. The brand is called 'New Choice'. In the box you'll get a little pipette and you put 3 drops of FIRST MORNING URINE into the little oval space, as per the instructions on the box. These tests are sensitive to 25mIU/hCG which means that in many cases, you can get a reliable result on the day your period is late, for only $1 per test.

As far as early detection, First Response seems to have the best reviews.  Really, the only ones I hear negative things about are dollar store and Answer.  I use the test from Early Pregnancy Tests, because I like to test frequently.

Home pregnancy tests are urine tests.  Most of the ones you get at the drugstore are midstream tests....that means you hold them in your urine stream when you are going to the bathroom.  Most of them also have an option where you can fill a container and dip them in.  Though it's more work, I recommend using this method.  That way you know you're getting the right amount of saturation.

If you're concerned about being able to read a test, you can always go the digital route.  Clear Blue Easy makes a good one.  The digital tests tend to be a little less sensitive, but that's only when it comes to testing early.  If you can wait until your missed period or a few days after, pretty much any test should work.  If you're wanting to test early, I recommend First Response or the tests from Early Pregnancy Tests.
