I assume she didn't just win the lottery, so I'll say Red Scarlet. The best cost a few hundred thousand, weigh a hundred pounds, and never leave the news room. This 3,000$ wonder I linked you to is pretty darn professional, however. Good for shooting independent motion pictures.

  2. I would say Arriflex 35mm.......but for a girl....you probably want a prosumer camera......

  3. The H2D-39 is the world's first high-end, digital auto-focus camera based on a 39 million pixel sensor.  http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/news/art...

They do some amazing cameras, costing in the region of $30000.00

Take a look at there site http://www.hasselblad.co.uk/

On a more rational budget, I think the nikkon D300 is an excellent camera, should get one for around $1000. Great quality for the money. http://www.pma-show.com/news_images/0029...

    Here's a write up about it http://www.pma-show.com/0298/nikon/digit...

Looking at the other replies, im not sure if you want a camera to make films with, or one for pictures lol. Oh well. :)

  4. Great answer by manimal347!!!! The Red Scarlet (coming out 2009) is THE best camera you can buy under $17,000....and it's only $3,000. Why is it sooo good? Well, cuz it can shoot about 3 times the resolution of the best HD camera available. It's called 3K RAW, a format with very little compression meaning excellent quality. Using the Sony F35 for comparison (Sony's best camera), Scarlet still has considerably more pixels!!! It's called Ultra High Definition.

Besides resolution, Scarlet has the following:

    1) 2/3" Mysterium X sensor....that's pretty large. And the general rule of thumb with image sensors is the bigger the better! Sony's EX1 has 1/2" sensors, but 2/3" is still considerably larger. Now, sensors are super important. They affect color reproduction and DOF (bigger sensors have more narrow DOF, which is good)

    2) Variable Frame Rate: Red Scarlet can shoot up to 120fps which is excellent for super clear, super slow-motion videos. It can also shoot 180fps for 5 seconds. The most any other camrea can do is 60fps.

Considering Red Scarlet has better resolution, image sensor, frame rates, and dynamic range than any other digital camera (except for the Red One), 3K for 3 grand is a total steal!  http://www.red.com/nab/scarlet

But if you're not convince that Scarlet totally owns, or if you can't wait until 2009, here are some other great cameras:

    1) Sony EX1                             $6,500

    2) Panasonic HVX200                $5,200

They are excellent cameras too. The EX1 creates truly beautiful video in true HD (not many cameras do real HD) at 1920x1080. It also has 1/2" sensors, which is pretty big. The HVX is excellent too. It's one of my favorites, but it's not quite as good as the EX1.

But keep in mind that Red Scarlet is a complex camera. It'll require a pretty powerful computer to handle 3K footage.

Hope that helps a bit. Anyways, good luck!!!
