im looking into getting rechargeable batteries for my digital camera. it is a Samsung S860 8.1-Megapixel

it came with alkaline batteries and i got it like..3 days ago and they are already acting kinda weird. like itll be fullo f enery, but then dead, then half way dead, then full again etc.

Ive been looking at rechargeable ones, but they seem expensive. But I guess its worth the money. Which one is the best? Is it possible to find one at least under 20 bucks? Im willing to go higher but no more than 30.

I was looking at the kodak ni-mh (sp??) ones and thats under 15..but I keep reading that it takes up to 14 hours to recharge. Would the 14 hours be worth the wait if they last a long time afterwards?

  1. I use the Sanyo eneloop AAs.  They come charged and seem to last longer in the camera.  You will need a charger, too.  I bought my batteries at Ritz Camera, and a charger at Walmart.  But I didn't like the batteries that came with the charger.

One thing you can do to save on your batteries is to not spend a lot of time looking at the pics you have taken.   Keep your camera turned off, too, when you aren't using it.

  2. If you're using standard alkaline batteries, they won't last long in a digital camera. Digital cameras require bursts of high current consumption that alkalines can't supply unless they are fresh.

Use rechargeable NiMH batteries. Way cheaper than alkaline batteries in the long run and they last much longer between charges than alkaline batteries. There is a new version of the NiMH battery called "low discharge". I would recommend using those batteries as they have a longer shelf life than the standard NiMH batteries. Standard NiMH batteries will self discharge (the discharge rate for a battery sitting around doing nothing) in a couple of weeks. The newer low discharge NiMH batteries takes months to self discharge.

The Maha charger is a good quality charger for NiMH batteries. Some chargers have a fast charge rate, but it will shorten the life of the batteries.

Normally, you would order two sets of batteries and rotate them. While one set is charging, the other set is in your camera.

  3. I actually have kodak ones that I really love!!!!! The only other ones I've ever tried are energizer but I don't exactly think they are good value for the money...
