I'm new in bicycling. Just wanted to buy a new road bicycle, and gear. If any one knows what to begin with, your answer would be appreciated!

  1. Here's a web site with several reasonalbe bikes in your price range. You will have to be able to do minor assembly and tuning yourself though. Anythime your buying on-line you need to know your fit well to make a good purchase.

I like this one. Check out the others as well.

  2. Do you want a road bike or a racing bike? They are not really the same thing. Check out the Trek 1.2 or the Scott Speedster S60. Very nice for a beginner, but in the $700-800 range both are about 20lb and have a mix of Shimano components so you aren't getting the bottom of the barrel stuff. You can later get some lighter wheels built up for racing on these bikes next season. If you only have $500-600 than perhaps a used Trek or Specialized, the racer boys and girls where you live are always have bikes to sell so visit the bike store that has a cycling club and ask around.

  3. 600 dollars won't get you much in terms of a new road bike. WHat you do get will have bottom of the line components (read: Shimano Sora) on a heavy frame. For a decent new road bike you will have to at least double what you are willing to pay.

As usual, my advice is check second hand bikes. Lots of people take up road biking, and then either don't like it or like it so much they buy a better bike quickly, so there are a lot of good buys on slightly used bikes. That is where you should look.

  4. it depends on what kind of money you plan on spending. whats your range?
