I have horrible insomnia, but im scared to take any sleeping pills or anything like that. I tried Tylenol PM, but that did absolutely nothing for me. So im to the point where I cant handle it anymore and im ready to try a sleep aid, but I dont know what works.

  1. I found that relaxation methods help.

One is to tighten your foot muscles and then relax them after a few counts. Then you start with the next group and work until you get to your head muscles.

Otherwise you can do some really hectic exercise and eventually you will sleep. Also try to limit your sleeping time to six hours.

  2. See your physician who can best determine the right sleep aide for you.

  3. Drinking milk and having a hot shower. You should be also physically active during the day so that you will be tired enough when you enter the bed. Some people say meditation and yoga can also help but i have never tried them.

  4. None without you.  I work in a hospital and the nurse gives the pt sleep aids.  Well I personally don't think they work alone.  The pt will get the sleep aid then talk for hours on the cell phone, watch tv with the sound blasting, go down stairs to smoke, ask for cup after cup of coffee (yes this is true) they will do anything BUT try to sleep.

So I don't even think it matters which sleep aid you use.  Just take one, go lay down, turn off the light, no noise (or a light noise), and try to get some sleep.

  5. Let me begin by saying that stress, emotional lability and certain diseases affect the onset and duration of sleep. The best regimen to begin is a natural sedative called Melatonin. It is involved in the regulation of sleep-wake cycle. if these fail, and antihistamine called Promethazine is an excellent hypnotic available with out prescription Take 25mg 30 minutes befor sleeping.

If the above fails consult your doctor for a prescription of benzodiazepines. Request a short acting drug such as temezepam or oxazepam as you suffer from something called initial insomnia. these will most probarbly work well for you.

avoid taking CNS stimuants such as Caffeine or appetit stimulants scuh as pseudoephedrine. These block bind to adenosine receptors preventing the initiation of sleep.

    Hope i helped:)
