  1. get the best hand every time.

  2. cheat

  3. If you are a beginner, I strongly recommend you start playing for free until you get the fundamental basics down. Then move on to the real money and play at the lower stakes. Finally move up.

Here is the following strategy I suggest you use:

    DISCIPLINE

Without discipline you'll become easy prey at the tables. Part of your texas holdem strategy should be mucking trash hands before the flop. Too many players are willing "to pay to see the flop." They get involved in hands they had absolutely no business playing.

Texas Holdem Poker Strategy #1:Learn the "art of the fold." Fold TRASH hands pre-flop.

    ATTITUDE

Napoleon Hill said, "If you think you are beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, don't. If you like to win, but you think you can't, it is almost certain you won't."

Texas Holdem Poker Strategy #2:Have a positive attitude. Focus on winning.

    PATIENCE

Annie Duke said, "Good poker players are boring poker players." Televised poker has spoiled us. TV makes us think we've got to always be a part of the action. What TV doesn't show is the countless hands that Daniel Negreanu or Gus Hansen folded.

You might be at a table folding your first 15-30 hands. Boring! Don't get impatient just to get some action.

Texas Holdem Poker Strategy #3:.If you are patient, the good cards WILL come!

"The two most powerful warriors are patience and time."

  4. Practice for free as long as possible and set limits when you play for real. If you win consistantly go for more a little at a time. Get a mentor that has a proven track record-pay for lessons if you must. NEVER get in over your head, ONLY play with "extra" money and NEVER "know" that you are going to win.

  5. Play tight and agressive is the strategy that I woudl recommend.

  6. Theres many answers to that question.  Books have been written, you may want to check out Harrington on Hold'em either the tournament version or the cash game version, depending on what you play.

But until then, the #1 peice of advice for any beginner, is starting hand selection.  Play only premium hands and it will take you a long way towards winning.  Patience is required as you have to wait for these hands, but they will come.

Raise and Re-Raise with AA KK QQ JJ 1010 AKs AK

Call up to 4 blinds with AQs AJs AQ

Raise with KQs, but don't call with it.  (unless multi way pot and you can fold a pair of kings or queens if people are betting.  You have to play it like a suited connector, not high cards.

Call up to 4 blinds with any pair.  If you don't hit 3 of a kind on the flop, be ready to fold.

Fold suited connectors when you are first or second to act, but play them when closer to the dealer button.

Just follow that basic (very basic!) strategy until you learn more and you will be better than 50% of the competition.

The real strength of playing only good hands before the flop is that it makes your decisions *after* the flop much easier.  As you get more experience, you can loosen up a little bit and start playing other hands when the situation give you an opporutunity.

The only other big piece of advice I can give is don't lose a big pot with top pair.  If you have AK and a K comes on the flop, generally people will figure out that you have the K.  When someone knows what you have, and you don't know what they have, you are either going to win a small pot or lose a big one.  Be very careful if you have top pair, bet, and get called or raised.  Think about what hand they have, not what you have.

    Good luck!

  7. There's an expression frequently used when it comes to Texas Hold'em.  They say it is a game that takes minutes to learn and a life time to master.

Doyle Brunson, the grandfather of poker, said in an interview last year that he had been playing poker for over 50 years, and yet when he sits down at the table he learns something every time he plays.

There is no quick or simple strategy that will make you a consistent winner at Texas Hold'em.  You have to practice, you have to study, and you have to commit to being good at the game.

But if you want a good start, tighten up your game.  Play premium hands.  Don't chase weak draws.  Remember that bluffing is really over rated in low stakes games.
